This weekend, Tábor will host the 40th edition of one of Europe’s oldest triathlons. On Sunday, July 27, athletes from 15 countries will line up on the shores of the Jordán lake to compete in both the Junior European Cup and the Czech National Championship.
First held in 1982, the Tábor Triathlon has become a staple of the European triathlon scene. Its unique atmosphere, technically demanding course, and central location in the historic town of Tábor make it a standout event year after year. Its international prestige continues to grow, regularly drawing competitors not only from across Europe but as far afield as Chile and Australia.

Among those hoping to make a strong impression this year are up-and-coming athletes with Olympic ambitions. One of the names to watch is Jakub Mittner, a Czech junior who has had a strong season on the European circuit and is currently ranked third in the Junior European Cup. “Tábor has a very special atmosphere for me,” says Mittner. “I’m really looking forward to racing in front of a home crowd – their support always pushes me to give my best.” Mittner is open about his ambitions to fight for a podium spot this weekend.
The organizers pride themselves on a blend of tradition and high-quality race execution.
“Reaching the 40th anniversary is a celebration, but also a responsibility,” says Šimon Kuncl, race director of the Junior European Cup. “We’re committed to maintaining the high standard people have come to expect from Tábor. Fortunately, we have a fantastic team with experience passed down through generations – that’s our greatest strength.”

Spectators can also enjoy a vibrant race village and fan zone near the children’s traffic park at Černá perla, featuring coffee and a triathlon-themed food truck menu.
The 750 m swim takes place on Jordán lake, followed by a 20 km bike course heading through the train station to Čekanice. The 5 km run takes athletes along 9. května Street, across TGM Square, and back along the lakeside promenade.
The race day kicks off at 9:00 AM with youth categories. The Junior European Cup starts at 12:30 PM, and the Czech National Championship gets underway at 5:00 PM.
Spectators are warmly invited to be part of the action, no prior knowledge of triathlon is needed to enjoy the energy, emotion, and scenic backdrop of Tábor. Entry is free, and the course is perfect for fans wanting to get up close to the athletes. Within the Czech season, this is one of the strongest events on the calendar.
