Tábor Triathlon Festival 2019 is over – results and photogallery

The European Junior Triathlon Cup as well as the Czech championship in sprint-triathlon took place in Tabor on the weekend of 3 – 4 August during the Tábor Triathlon Festival. Titles of champions goes to František Linduška and Tereza Zimovjanová. Czech colors were shining even during the European Junior Cup – Alžběta Hrušková takes gold medal, Radim Grebík silver!

Alžběta Hrušková showed a spectacular performance, when she declassified rivals from 19 countries and won the 1st place in the European Cup! She kept her position in the first pack after the swim part and constantly  with her New Zealander Brey Roderick. The pack then devoured Barbara De Koning, who had more than a 40-second lead from swimming. Hrušková had an excellent running form and proofed it during 5km run.

Spanish athlete Angel Sanchez Carreras dominated the men race. Czech Radim Grebík swam with a ten second shortage on the first package. This talent from Zlín confirmed his strongest discipline is the bike and he arrived into the first pack already in the first cycling circuit.

“It is a huge successes! As organizers, we could’t have desired anything better. We are pleased that our track was so suitable for Czech racers,” said Martin Hotový on behalf of the organizers team.

Despite problems on the cycling track, Tereza Zimovjanová became the Czech sprint champion. “I don’t even know how I did it, suddenly I was just lying on the ground,” showing the bumped elbow.

The success of last year was repeated by František Linduška. “I love to race in Tábor. I feel at home here. I have the support of my girlfriend, friends and coach, ”explains the Czech national team representative. Domestic track fitted especially the third Lukáš Červenka, a competitor of the Triathlon Team Tábor. He maintained a twenty-second lead from swimming all along the bike course. Linduška and the second Jan Volár had to put a huge effort even in two to catch up with him. They did it just before the transition area 2. On the run, the Červenka had no chance, and he finished third.

A minute of silence

The race of the military administration championship also took place during the Sunday Grand Prix of Tábor in triathlon. The race was dedicated to the memory of the 1st anniversary of the heroes – members of the 42nd Mechanized Battalion, who died on 5 August 2018 in a suicide bomber attack on a patrol in Afghanistan and became the first year of memorial št.prap. Martin Marcina, št.prap. Kamil Benes and št.prap. Patrik Štěpánek.

Charity Run

The Tábor Triathlon Festival also included a charity night run. 120 runners, pedestrians and wheelchair users with shining glasses and bracelets set off on Saturday 21st hour at the Grand Prix in Triathlon. The money from their entry fee go to the sports-rehabilitation stay of athletes with a handicap from Tábor. The cheque with the collected amount of CZK 23,500 was handed over to the representative of Kaňka by the main organizer of the Tábor Triathlon Festival Šimon Kuncl. “I want to thank all the runners and the Tábor triathlon team for organizing this great event. I did not expect us to meet in such an amount, I’m glad for that,” said Iva Míková, Executive Director of the Kaňka Centre.
